Product Description: Cefpodoxime proxetil is a third generation cephalosporin antibiotic with a broad spectrum of antibacterial activity. It works by stopping the growth of bacteria. This antibiotic treats only bacterial infection. It will not work for any viral infections (such as flu, common cold).
Pharmacological Actions:
Cefpodoxime proxetil inhibits the synthesis of cell wall. The active metabolite of cefpodoxime binds preferentially to penicillin binding protein, which inhibits production of peptidoglycan, the primary constituent of bacterial cell walls. Clavulanic acid is a natural inhibitor of beta lactamase, which are produced by Streptomyces clavuligerus. It binds to beta lactamase moieties and inactivates them, thus restricting the cefpodoxime destruction. Clavulanic acid has very little antimicrobial activity.
USES: It is used to treat various bacterial infections such as pharyngitis/tonsillitis (throat infections), otitis media (ear infections), sinusitis (infection of the sinuses), community-acquired pneumonia, gonorrhoea (sexually transmitted disease), anorectal infections in women, skin, and urinary tract infections.
