Product Description: Cefixime belongs to the third generation class of medicines known as Cephalosporin antibiotics. This medicine kills and stops the growth of bacteria causing the infection. It is not effective against infections caused by viruses.
Pharmacological Actions:
Cefixime binds to specific penicillin-binding proteins (PBPs) located inside the bacterial cell wall, causing the inhibition of the third and last stage of bacterial cell wall synthesis. Cell lysis is then mediated by bacterial cell wall autolytic enzymes such as autolysins; it is possible that cefixime interferes with an autolysin inhibitor.
USES: Cefixime used to treat a variety of bacterial infections. It is effective in infections of the respiratory tract (eg. bronchitis), urinary tract, ear, nasal sinus, throat, and some sexually transmitted diseases (eg. Gonorrhea).
Side Effects:
Common side effects are-
1. Diarrhea
2. Stomach pain
3. Gas
4. Heartburn
5. Nausea
6. Vomiting
HOW TO USE?
It is usually taken with or without food every 12 or 24 hours . When used for the treatment of gonorrhea it may be given in a single dose. Take cefixime at around the same times every day.
